One of the most important aspects of a successful Passive House build (or any quality build, for that matter) is an informed and capable crew. Part of Emu’s mission is to reach out to as many tradespeople as possible, and we’re working together with some fantastic local organizations to do just that in both Vermont and Maine this November.

Why become a Passive House Tradesperson?
One of our favorite testimonials is by Darren Macri, a Passive House builder in New Jersey, who said this in an interview with long-time Passive House blogger, Elrond Burrell:
“In 2009, I was at a conference and learned about Passive House; I felt like a teenage boy that just noticed girls for the first time – “Oh my god. You are amazing – how did I not see you before?
He goes on to explain that many builders find that with awareness of the key aspects that make Passive House possible, they are able to make adjustments to the way they operate on site that result in much higher quality builds. In the end, it just makes sense.
The CPHT course teaches tradespeople how to spot thermal bridges, how to attack the air barrier, and how to watch out for moisture management issues. The PHI accreditation exam communicates to the world that you have this bank of knowledge, and you’re not afraid to use it.
Check out our growing list of graduates from Emu’s CPHT courses and exams. We had our first graduating class here in Denver this past May, and we’ll be running another Colorado set of courses in early 2018.
