Last week, Emu took part in an exciting event for women in the construction and transportation industries, the Transportation Girl Luncheon.
Together with several other companies from our incredible co-working community, Tradecraft Industries, we sponsored a table at this luncheon and exhibit aimed at raising awareness about career paths for women in a traditionally male dominated field.
Girls from the US Department of Transportation’s inaugural Career Days Discovery program attended the event, and spoke about their experiences spending time in various companies around the Denver area. The Master of Ceremonies was the inspiring Amelia Earhart, Denver’s 9NEWS traffic reporter who piloted a flight around the world.
Here are just a few quick stats from The National Association of Women in Construction that illustrate the situation here in the US:
Statistics of Women in Construction
- In 2014, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported 9,813,000 people working in the construction industry. Of these, 872,000 of them, or 8.9 percent, were women.
