LEED certification consultation for mixed-use historic structure in Casalmaggiore (CR), Italy.
Together with Damiano Chiarini of Studio Rinnova, we consulted on the LEED documentation for the Castra Maiora project in the historic city center of Casalmaggiore (province of Cremona, in Lombardy, Italy). The project brief was for the demolition of a group of abandoned residential buildings, with the goal of creating 13 new units of varying sizes. The project goals included increasing the open green space, moving the parking underground to combat heat island effect, installing a efficient water fixtures, managing construction waste, and using a heat pump system to achieve higher energy efficiency. Our contribution was primarily to the documentation of the Sustainable Sites and Water Efficiency credit sections of the US version of LEED for New Construction rating system. As of 2010, the project has been postponed, awaiting funding.
