Pioneering a Resilient Future in Construction
The construction industry is at a crossroads. With climate change accelerating and energy demands rising, it’s more important than ever to adopt building practices that are sustainable, efficient, and resilient. Emu Passive is leading the charge through the 5000 Builders Challenge—an ambitious initiative to train 5,000 builders and architects in Passive House principles and high-performance building science by 2030.
What is Emu's 5000 Builders Challenge?
The 5000 Builders Challenge is our call to action for the next generation of construction professionals. By committing to this challenge, you’ll be part of a movement that aims to:
- Elevate Building Standards: Equip yourself with the tools to design and construct buildings that go beyond energy efficiency and focus on long-term sustainability and resilience.
- Accelerate the Transition to high-performance, low-carbon construction methods, meeting the needs of the future while addressing the challenges of today.
- Create Impact: Every certified Passive House builder and architect is a change-maker who drives better standards for the entire industry, influencing everything from building codes to community well-being.

Why Passive House?
The Passive House standard is a globally recognized benchmark for sustainable building, focusing on extreme energy efficiency, superior indoor comfort, and durability. Buildings built to Passive House standards are healthier, more affordable to operate, and better for the environment. As part of the 5000 Builders Challenge, you’ll learn how to apply these proven techniques to both residential and commercial projects, setting you apart as a leader in the future of construction.

Other Green Building Standards
Training in Passive House principles provides a solid foundation that makes meeting other green building standards more straightforward. By mastering Passive House design, construction, and performance metrics, builders and architects gain a deep understanding of energy efficiency, airtightness, thermal comfort, and sustainability—key elements that overlap with other leading green certifications like Phius, LEED, Living Building Challenge, Pretty Good House, and Zero Energy Ready Homes. Whether it’s achieving net-zero energy, creating a healthier indoor environment, or meeting strict environmental impact goals, Passive House training equips professionals with the knowledge and skills to integrate these high-performance strategies seamlessly into any project, streamlining the process of obtaining multiple green certifications.
