How Much Continuing Education Do You Need for Passive House?
These are the current continuing education requirements for Passive House (PHI). For more information, refer to PHI’s guidelines.
- Certified Passive House Consultant / Designer (CPHC/D): 120 CE units every 5 years.
- Certified Passive House Tradesperson (CPHT): 30 CE units every 5 years.

Fast-Track Your Passive House Renewal via Continuing Education Credits
The fastest way to collect Passive House CE credits to attend Emu’s Passive Pod Workshop. This grants participants with 16 CE credits for Passive House Tradespeople, Designers, and Consultants (CPHT, CPHD, CPHC).
In-house Continuing Education Presentations
Depending on availability, Emu can offer in-house continuing education presentations on a wide range of building science topics. These are pre-approved for Passive House CE purposes, and can be self-reported for other organizations (e.g. AIA, and others).

Building Science Continuing Education: Emu's Core Curriculum
Emu’s Core Curriculum* provides participants with:

Hands-on Continuing Education: Passive Pod Workshop
Emu’s Passive Pod Workshop provides participants with:
- 16 CE credits with PHI*
- 16 HSW CEUs with AIA**
*This applies to Passive House tradespeople (CPHT), as well as Passive House Designers and Consultants (CPHD, CPHC).
**In addition to the 16 HSW CEUs that participants gain from the Building Science Course.

Can I renew my Passive House certification through a project?
Yes, you can. Please contact handwerk@passive.de for further assistance.
Emu does not provide assistance to the Passive House renewal via a project, so that we are not placing additional financial burden on you.
My Passive House certification expired years ago, can I still renew it?
To the best of our knowledge, yes, via through CE credits. You do NOT take the exam again.
