Passive House Training Funding for Architects and Builders in Massachusetts
If you are running an architecture firm or construction company, you likely need Massachusetts Specialized Energy Code training now that Passive House standards are a mandate for many buildings within the state. With the new rules requiring Passive House for multifamily buildings over 12,000 square feet, the demand for a high-performance skill set has become a necessity.
We are here to deliver the good news for your training budget. The Emu Passive course has been officially pre-qualified under the Massachusetts Workforce Training Fund Program (WTFP) Express Grant. This means Massachusetts employers can now have up to 100% of their training costs covered by the state, providing exactly the kind of workforce development funds you have been looking for.
To be safe, we strongly recommend you submit your application by no later than end of day Monday, March 30. -> Apply Here. <-

Why Massachusetts Specialized Stretch Energy Code training Matters in 2026
Last year over 48 municipalities (including Boston, Cambridge, Somerville, Brookline, and dozens more) adopted the Specialized Energy Code. Under these new rules, multifamily buildings over 12,000 square feet must meet Passive House standards.
Buildings constructed today are being evaluated on their long-term operational costs and carbon footprints. Passive House structures offer:
- Energy Resilience: They can maintain comfortable internal temperatures for days during power outages, a growing concern with erratic New England winters.
- Reduced Operational Expense: By reducing heating and cooling demand by up to 90%, these buildings are significantly more attractive to investors and property managers facing rising energy costs.
Even though Massachusetts has made Passive House a requirement for multifamily projects, the standard remains highly relevant for all building types. The principles behind Passive House offer significant advantages for single-family homes, offices, and municipal structures alike.
CPHT Bootcamp in Boston
The Certified Passive House Tradesperson (CPHT) is a globally recognized credential from the Passive House Institute (PHI). This hands-on training is built for architects, and builders and other construction professionals.

Our upcoming Bootcamp in Boston provides students with the confidence to handle:
- Continuous Insulation: This acts like a high-quality “parka” for the building by wrapping the entire structure in an unbroken layer of insulation to keep indoor temperatures stable year-round.
- Airtight Construction: Passive House buildings prevent unintended drafts and moisture migration with an extremely tight building envelope, protecting the structure from rot and keeping conditioned air inside.
- High-Performance Windows: These triple-paned windows feature insulated frames and specialized coatings to harvest solar heat in the winter and block it during the summer.
- Thermal Bridge-Free Design: This eliminates “highways” for heat to bypass insulation (like steel beams or wood studs), ensuring there are no cold spots on interior walls where mold could form.
- Heat Recovery Ventilation (HRV/ERV): Because the building is so airtight, it uses a mechanical “lung” to constantly swap stale indoor air for fresh, filtered outside air while retaining the indoor temperature.
